Concorezzo officially became a city in 1989. But its roots stretch back centuries, to a time when it pulsed with a different kind of energy. Concorezzo borders municipalities like Arcore, Vimercate, Monza, Villasanta, and Agrate Brianza. In the 13th century, Concorezzo was a significant hub for the Cathars in Northern Italy. These followers of a Christian dualist movement found refuge within Concorezzo’s walls, their beliefs a stark contrast to the dominant Catholic doctrine. Their presence here made Concorezzo a place of both spiritual fervor and lurking danger. The Cathars’ time in Concorezzo, however, was tragically cut short. Oldrado da Tresseno, the podestà of Milan, led a brutal campaign against them, ultimately extinguishing their presence in the town. This dark chapter of Concorezzo’s history reminds us of the power struggles and religious persecution that shaped medieval Europe. Today, the modern Concorezzo thrives with over 15,000 residents.
