Founded in 1874 Concordia Lutheran Church stands before you. It’s a testament to enduring faith. This isn’t just a building. It’s a living community. Generations have worshipped within these walls. They’ve celebrated joys and mourned losses. They’ve found solace and strength in the shared faith.
Concordia’s roots are deep in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The church moved to its current location on Kirkwood Road in 1954. It began on a dirt field. Imagine a bustling new neighborhood. Young families and military personnel built their homes there. The church grew alongside the community.
Concordia isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a hub of service. The church partners with local organizations. They support Camarena Elementary School. They work with South Bay Community Services. The San Diego Food Bank also benefits from their efforts. They assist Urban Refuge helping those in need.
Concordia’s outreach extends beyond San Diego. They support ministries in Tijuana Mexico. Mil Generaciones receives crucial assistance. This ministry serves children single mothers the elderly and families. They also plant mission churches expanding their reach.
Concordia also partners with Mission India. They focus on Bible clubs literacy programs and training church planters. Millions of children have benefited from their work. Thousands of women have learned to read. Thousands more have been trained to share the faith. Even during COVID-19 Mission India distributed over 200000 relief kits.
Operation Christmas Child OCC is another partner. Concordia has packed thousands of shoeboxes. These boxes bring joy to children worldwide. They contain school supplies hygiene items and small toys. Each box is a tangible expression of love. It also includes a children’s Bible course and a connection to a local church.
Concordia’s newest outreach is to orphaned children in Guatemala. They support a group home providing loving care. They also conduct community projects. On recent trips they’ve provided water filters. This project serves families and communities improving health and well-being.
