What if I told you that this Conalep here is part of a network spanning the entire country? The Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica, or Conalep, is a public high school system in Mexico. It focuses on technical training. Conalep was founded in 1978 by José Antonio Padilla Segura. He aimed to create an institution that could train technical professionals.

Conalep uses a competency-based model. This means students learn by doing and mastering specific skills. Conalep is also a center for evaluating and certifying job skills. This ensures graduates are ready for the workforce. In Nuevo León, Conalep offers 28 different career paths across 17 campuses. These include fields like food and beverage, automotive technology, and industrial electromechanics.

Imagine the Mexico of the late 1970s. The country needed skilled workers. President José López Portillo tasked Fernando Solana with creating a national training system. Solana turned to José Antonio Padilla Segura. Together, they envisioned Conalep as a solution.

The first Conalep school opened in Mexico City in 1979. It was named after José Antonio Padilla Segura III. It started with 300 students. Today, that campus can accommodate 800 students. It has classrooms, labs, and workshops. Conalep adapted to the country’s changing needs. In 1994, it embraced Competency Standards Based Education. This approach ensures students gain practical skills relevant to the job market.

A new academic reform in 2003 brought further innovation. Conalep adopted Education and Training Based on Contextualized Competencies. This methodology integrates learning and makes it meaningful. The curriculum balances technical skills with scientific and humanistic education.

Conalep has grown into a federalized institution. It includes a central unit, 30 state colleges, and a unit in the Federal District. There are over 270 schools across the country. These schools are in major cities and industrial zones. Conalep also operates eight Technology Assistance and Services Centers.

Graduates earn a Bachiller Technical Professional degree. They gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes for the job market. They can also access higher education. Conalep aims to prepare students for success in their personal, social, and professional lives. Conalep strives to be a leader in technological development. It builds alliances with industry and participates in research. Its goal is to contribute to social transformation.
