Community Chapel Pentecostal Church of God is part of a larger movement. It is connected to the Pentecostal Church of God. This denomination has a rich history dating back to 1919.
The Pentecostal Church of God was first called the Pentecostal Assemblies of USA. It was formed in Chicago Illinois. A group of Pentecostal ministers founded it. They chose not to affiliate with the Assemblies of God. John C. Sinclair served as the first moderator. He was an early Pentecostal pastor in Chicago.
The Pentecostal Assemblies of the USA dissolved in 1922. The organization resumed as the Pentecostal Church of God. The denominational headquarters moved several times. In 1927 it moved to Ottumwa Iowa. By 1933 it was in Kansas City Missouri. In 1951 the headquarters relocated to Joplin Missouri. Finally in 2012 it moved to Bedford Texas.
The Pentecostal Church of God combines Pentecostal and evangelical doctrines. They believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. They believe in one God that exists as a Trinity. Salvation is available through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice. They also believe salvation can be lost. This happens if one turns away from God. Water baptism is important. It follows the Trinitarian formula. After salvation a Christian can be baptized with the Holy Spirit. This is evidenced by speaking in tongues. Sanctification occurs progressively. It begins at the time of regeneration. Heaven and hell are literal places. Heaven is for those who have received salvation. Hell is for those who have rejected it. The Christian Church is made of all true Christians. There are two ordinances. These are water baptism and the Lord’s supper. Members practice tithing. Jesus Christ will return. His return is imminent.
The East Texas District of the Pentecostal Church of God was formed in Houston in 1943. There were 33 churches initially. By 1954 it chartered with the State of Texas. Today there are more than 50 churches in the East Texas District.
The Pentecostal Church of God has a mission. That mission is to reach the lost. Their movement is the church of Jesus Christ. They pursue God’s presence. They contend for mission. They focus on growing the church.
