Ten families a bold step of faith. They moved north from Yonkers and White Plains. They gathered in homes. Their faith tradition was open Brethren assemblies. They wanted a church that was nondenominational. This is the story of Community Bible Evangelical Church. A welcoming church serving Christians of many backgrounds. They pooled their resources. They used the equity in their homes. This secured financing for a building. This building their first home. The church grew quickly in the 1970s. A fresh work of God’s Spirit. Neighborhood Bible studies flourished. They sent missionaries overseas and locally. Community Bible Church CBC was innovative. They took turns planning services. They studied the Bible together. Small groups discussed sermons given by guest speakers. The 1990s brought a new era. The congregation needed a pastor. David Dunkerton a missionary they supported became their leader. For 16 years CBC thrived. He ensured their commitment to the Word. The church adapted to change. In 2008 Dick Wiedenheft became pastor. He balanced tradition and innovation. He kept CBC engaged with the cultural landscape. Today Mark Swanson leads the church. He carries on the spirit of the founders. The church continues to grow. It embraces new ideas while holding to its biblical foundations. Through decades CBC has adapted and thrived. A community united in purpose guided by truth. This is the remarkable story of Community Bible Evangelical Church. A testament to steadfast faith and adaptability.
