Ready to delve into Colorado’s sporting glory? The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame stands as a testament to the athletic achievements within this state. It is a place to honor those who brought fame and glory to Colorado.

Established in 1964 by Supreme Court Justice Byron White, the Hall of Fame initially existed as a board of directors operating from the Denver Chamber of Commerce. The first class inducted in 1965 included Earl “Dutch” Clark, Jack Dempsey, and Byron “Whizzer” White. For 37 years, the organization focused on honoring inductees at an annual awards dinner.

The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum opened in August 2001. It coincided with the opening of the sports stadium now known as Empower Field at Mile High. The Metropolitan Football Stadium District played a key role in making this dream a reality.

Located at Gate #1 on the west side of Empower Field at Mile High, the museum showcases the state’s leading athletes, coaches, and sports leaders. Exhibits feature a timeline, photographs, and biographies. You can also find information about sports conditioning and the achievements of sportswomen. A special section is dedicated to the Denver Broncos. There is even a kids’ play area.

The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame selection committee chooses inductees. This independent committee consists of media representatives from across Colorado. Public nominations are accepted. The committee considers each nominee’s recognition and distinction in sports. They also consider their achievements in bringing fame and glory to Colorado. Achievements in athletic participation, teaching, coaching, administration, promotion, refereeing, ownership, reporting, or training are all considered.

Since its inception, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame has expanded its reach. It now has a permanent museum and a website. Fundraising efforts through the Induction Banquet and the Golf Classic support youth sports programs.

Now in its 60th year, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame is focused on merit. Accomplishments and contributions determine the honorees. Gender, race, religion, or quotas are not factors in the selection process.

Step inside the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. Explore the exhibits. Celebrate the sporting legends who have shaped Colorado’s athletic landscape. It’s a journey through time. It’s a tribute to dedication. It’s an inspiration for future generations.
