Lights, camera, action. Welcome to Colonial Street at Universal Studios. This isn’t just any street. It is a place where movie magic comes alive.
Colonial Street has a history spanning over 60 years. It has been home to countless movies and TV shows. From humble beginnings, Colonial Street transformed into the famous Wisteria Lane. This was the setting for “Desperate Housewives”.
From 2004 to 2012, Colonial Street was Wisteria Lane. After “Desperate Housewives” ended, the street had a makeover. The goal was to remove the Wisteria Lane aspects. It needed to be ready for new productions. By May 2012, most of the white fencing and wisteria were gone.
Colonial Street then hosted “About a Boy” and “Telenovela”. Eva Longoria starred in “Telenovela”. She previously starred in “Desperate Housewives.”
In 1988, Colonial Street was changed for “The ‘Burbs”. The old “Leave It to Beaver” house was removed. After the movie, the homes were rearranged. Circle Drive was connected once again.
A church facade was removed. It had been seen on “Murder She Wrote.” This made space for Edie’s house. The Colonial Mansion was replaced by a park.
Many buildings have graced Colonial Street over the years. The Delta House, also known as the Keller house, has been here since 1950. It became 4347 Wisteria Lane. The Allison Home has stood since 1946. It was known as 4349 Wisteria Lane.
The Munster Mansion is another iconic structure. It was originally the Maxim house. Since 1946, it has been known as 4351 Wisteria Lane. The Johnson Home has been around since 1955. It was known as 4353 Wisteria Lane.
The Dana Home dates back to 1941. It was known as 4355 Wisteria Lane. Even the McCluskey Home got in on the act. The Klopek House, built around 1999, became 4354 Wisteria Lane. The Leave It To Beaver House has been here since 1996. It became 4352 Wisteria Lane.
Colonial Street has seen many productions. “About a Boy” and “Adam-12” filmed here. “Angie Tribeca” and “Baby Daddy” also used the street. Classics like “Bedtime for Bonzo” and “Beethoven” were shot here. Even “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “The ‘Burbs” used Colonial Street.
“Casper”, “Deep Impact”, and “Delta House” all filmed here. “The Desperate Hours” and “Desperate Housewives” are also on the list. “Father’s Day” and “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken” were filmed here too. Colonial Street truly has a varied past.
Music videos also found a home on Colonial Street. Melanie B, Smash Mouth, and The Offspring all filmed here. Nelly, Diddy, and Boxcar Racer also made videos here. Even Michael Bublé and Bring Me the Horizon used the street.
