“Imagine the possibilities” is not just a motto. It is the very air that students breathe here at the College of Fine Arts. Established in August 1946 as the Faculty of Art. It was part of the College of Arts at Seoul National University.
Today the College of Fine Arts consists of several departments. They are Oriental Painting Painting Sculpture and Crafts and Design. The Crafts and Design department is further divided into specific areas. Students can pursue four-year undergraduate courses. They can also take two-year master’s and doctorate courses. These are available in the aforementioned fields.
But that is not all. The College provides cooperative majors. These include Media Arts and Integrated Creative Design for undergraduates. Art Management is available at the graduate level.
Here at the College of Fine Arts, we encourage experimentation. Students explore new artistic possibilities based on tradition. The College positively accepts new movements and trends in contemporary art and design. These are reflected in the curriculum. Students build their own unique ways of thinking. They move beyond fixed ideas and conventional thinking. This leads to innovative and creative art.
Our graduates go on to achieve great things. They cultivate entrepreneurship. They create new design businesses. NEOWIZ Studio Gale and WOOFER DESIGN are examples. Others become leading designers for major companies. These include Samsung Hyundai and LG in Korea. Some even work for General Motors Walt Disney or Pixar abroad.
Many graduates become design educators. They shape future generations. They establish design theories and practices. You will find them at Seoul National University and other prestigious institutions.
The College of Fine Arts also plays an important international role. It has exchange programs with many universities. These include Aalto University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Also included are the University of Art and Design Offenbach and Tsinghua University. Students can study at SNU for a semester or two. They then transfer credits back to their home institution.
Here, we delve into Product System Design. We explore Graphic and Typography Design. We examine Space Design and User Interface Design. We also study Interaction UX design and HCI Design. New Media Design and Motion Graphic Design are other key areas. We focus on Service Design and Human-Centered Design Methodology. We explore Design History Theory and Criticism too.
The College of Fine Arts is more than just a school. It is a crucible of creativity. It is a place where tradition meets innovation. It is where the artists of tomorrow are forged.
