Here, the echoes of roaring crowds and the thud of rugby balls tell a story that began in 1943. This is Club La Tablada. It is more than just a sports club. It is a testament to community spirit and athletic excellence in Córdoba.

Originally, the club emerged not from a sporting ambition. It was “El Club de la Parroquia de La Tablada”. Locals from La Tablada parish sought a social hub. Some members already played rugby for Córdoba Athletic. They wanted their own team.

The name “La Tablada” itself has significance. It honors the Battle of La Tablada in 1829. This battle took place near Cerro de las Rosas. It pitted unitarios against federales. The name also refers to places where cavalry horses and cattle found lush pastures.

In its early days, Club La Tablada thrived as a social center. Members enjoyed parties, bridge games, and even pelota paleta. There were enthusiasts of bocce and fencing.

The turning point came with rugby’s introduction. Young locals who played rugby elsewhere began organizing. In 1955, La Tablada merged with Bamba Rugby Club. This solidified La Tablada Rugby Club.

Their first field was simple. It was located at the end of the new subdivision in the area of Calle 6. A tram car served as a changing room. Imagine that.

The club quickly rose through the ranks. Just two years later, they reached the first division. They have never been relegated since.

In 1975, Club La Tablada moved to its current home in URCA. This move included a second field, an Olympic-sized pool, and a hockey field. A gymnasium was added too. For a time, there was even another field on Lamarca street.

The 1990s brought significant upgrades. New changing rooms and a computerized sprinkler system improved the facilities. Enhanced lighting made the field television-ready. The press began calling it “La Boutique”.

La Tablada continued to expand. In 1995, they began developing land in Villa Warcalde. By 1998, they partnered with a leading urban development firm. This collaboration led to the creation of a country club. It ensured top-notch infrastructure for hockey and rugby.

The club has celebrated many victories over the years. La Tablada has won the Torneo de Córdoba title 14 times. They secured the Torneo del Interior championship three times. In 1999, they claimed the Nacional de Clubes title.

La Tablada’s rivalry with Tala Rugby Club is legendary. Matches between these teams draw the largest crowds in local rugby. This makes it a Córdoba classic.

The club has also produced notable players. Ricardo Passaglia was the first club member to play for Los Pumas in 1977. Many others have followed in his footsteps. They have represented Argentina on the international stage.

In women’s field hockey, Club La Tablada is also a force. The club is affiliated with the Córdoba Field Hockey Federation. Their teams compete in various tournaments.

Club La Tablada stands as a symbol of enduring legacy. From its humble beginnings as a social club to its current status. It fosters sportsmanship and community. As you leave, remember the dedication that defines Club La Tablada.
