“I’ve been to London, Paris, even Rome,” you might be thinking. “I’ve seen the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, the Colosseum. But have you ever seen a Clock Tower that is truly a symbol of a bustling city?” You stand right in front of the Clock Tower in Salalah. This unique tower, known as the Burj An Nahda, is truly the city’s pulse, a beacon of modernism in a land steeped in history. It rises proudly from a roundabout that once greeted travelers arriving from the old airport. Although the newer Salalah International Airport replaced it in 2015, the Clock Tower still holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Salalah. As the first landmark you saw upon arrival, it welcomed you to the city and marked the beginning of your journey.
With four sides, each adorned with a clock and eight glass windows, the Clock Tower stands as a testament to the city’s development. Its bright lights during the night make it a stunning spectacle, contrasting with the traditional architecture of the area. It sits at the junction of two prominent roads in Salalah, Ar-Rubat Street and Al-Matar Street, ensuring that it remains visible to all who pass by. The area around the tower is teeming with life: the old airport, Haffa House, Max Fashion store, Nabi Umran Tomb, and the old Lulu Hypermarket all vie for a place in the skyline.
The Clock Tower in Salalah is more than just a timepiece; it is a reminder of the city’s past, present, and future. It marks the city’s modernization and serves as a constant beacon for tourism, reminding us that time marches on and Salalah is always evolving. As you gaze upon the Clock Tower, reflecting on its significance, you feel a sense of belonging, realizing that every city, no matter how grand or humble, has its own heartbeat, and this Clock Tower is Salalah’s.
