Can you hear the echoes of prayers and laughter? This is Clarkston Community Centre, a place where faith and community intertwine. Clarkston Community Centre wasn’t always a beacon of Islamic life. It began its journey in 1941 as Stamperland Church. The original two-story church halls were constructed then, with the sanctuary added later in 1964. Now, this modern-style church, spanning two floors on half an acre, has found new purpose, serving the Muslim community in the heart of Clarkston. Clarkston Community Centre offers a wide range of activities. From evening youth clubs fostering connections over tea and activities, to short courses delving into various topics. Mothers and toddlers find a haven here with free play, story time, and Islamic nasheeds. Morning Maktab for children covers Quranic studies, Islamic fundamentals, and more. Women can participate in classes on Taharah, Salah, Hajj, and marriage. The centre even offers Islamic counselling, providing a holistic approach to well-being that respects faith, culture, and family dynamics. Clarkston Community Centre also hosts Ladies Tajweed/Islamic Studies classes weekly. These classes focus on improving Quran recitation and understanding the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. Imagine the halls filled with the melodic recitations, a testament to the vibrant life within these walls. The building itself is a fascinating blend of old and new. The original structure dates back to 1941, a testament to the enduring legacy of the community. It sits on a sloping site with landscaped grounds. While there’s no dedicated parking, on-street parking is available. Clarkston Community Centre is connected to mains water, gas, electricity, and drainage, ensuring a comfortable environment for all. Inside, you’ll find a sanctuary, vestry, halls, meeting rooms, offices, a kitchen, and even an organ room. The total area encompasses over 1260 square meters, providing ample space for the diverse activities. Clarkston Community Centre is more than just a building. It’s a testament to the power of community and the enduring spirit of faith. It’s a place where the past and present converge, creating a vibrant hub for the Muslim community in Clarkston.
