Once an industrial area south of West Station. That’s how the story of City West begins. Today, it’s a vibrant mix of residential buildings, offices, and hotels. This area revitalized Frankfurt’s Bockenheim district.
City West covers 0.52 square kilometers. Around 5,000 people call it home. About 18,000 jobs are available here. It’s a small city within a city.
In the south, Theodor-Heuss-Allee marks the border. S-Bahn lines define the west and north. Kreuznacher Strasse forms the eastern edge.
The guiding principle was modern urban planning. City West combines living, working, and relaxation. Green spaces link the buildings. These are cleverly marketed as “Pocket Parks.”
Imagine planners envisioning a new kind of urban space. In 1986, architect Oswald Mathias Ungers presented an idea sketch. By 1993, the architectural office of Albert Speer created design plans. In 1998, Frankfurt decided on development plan “550 Solmsstrasse / Voltastrasse”.
Old industrial buildings were dismantled. New administrative and high-rise buildings took their place. A new residential area emerged. It was connected by tram.
Many companies moved into City West. American Express, Deloitte, and Zurich Insurance chose this location. Novotel, Deutsche Bank, and ING Bank followed. Even the municipal energy supplier Mainova AG has its headquarters here.
Look up to see the high-rise buildings along Theodor-Heuss-Allee. These buildings reach about 70 meters. They create a distinctive skyline. They visually define City West.
Going from west to east, you’ll see Scala West and Radisson SAS. The St. Martin Tower and Centurion stand tall. Don’t miss Theodor-Heuss-Allee 110, Cielo, and Sparkassen Finanz Informatik. Finally, there’s the IBC building.
Consider the Radisson Blu Hotel. It offers hotel rooms. The Adam is proposed for office and commercial use. AYR, formerly Scala West, provides rental space.
Theodor-Heuss-Allee 110 also has rental space. Cielo is strictly for offices. Sparkassen Informatik uses its building for offices too.
St. Martin Tower offers premium office space. Romeo & Julia serves as an office building. The IBC Forum and Corner provide office space as well.
BRIXX and Theodor-Heuss-Allee 106 are office buildings. Westend Carre offers rental space. VOLTA EINS and Trade also provide office space.
Theodor-Heuss-Allee 108 houses offices and commercial spaces. MyWest is another office building.
Today, City West is a testament to urban transformation. It blends modern architecture with green spaces. It offers a high quality of life. City West continues to evolve. It remains a significant part of Frankfurt’s identity.
