That’s quite a bit more than its estimated value. Experts found issues. There was PCB and asbestos contamination. The building also failed to meet modern fire safety standards.
A massive renovation followed. It cost about 30 million Euros. The old facade was removed and replaced entirely. A fitness studio opened in the 2600-square-meter base building in 2017. In 2017 the City Tower Essen reopened. This is a testament to the building’s resilience.
The City Tower Essen is now owned by Magna Immobilien AG. Since 2019 all of its office spaces are rented. The building stands as a symbol of Essen’s economic rebirth. It shows how past challenges can lead to modern success. Today the City Tower Essen is a vibrant hub of business and activity. It’s a landmark that blends history and modern innovation.
