“Just 20 minutes from the airport,” someone mentions as you approach City Light Church. This is not just any church. City Light Church offers more than spiritual guidance. It provides a home and education for Cambodian youths.
City Light Church began with a simple mission. It aimed to support students from Kampong Chhnang Province. These students needed a place to stay while studying in Phnom Penh. The Rainbow Hostel ministry was born to meet this need. The City Light Church soon followed. It was formed to nurture the spiritual growth of these young residents.
Today City Light Church is home to 54 youths. There are 20 girls and 34 boys. They pursue degrees and skills training. CRCHK supports the girls’ hostel program. They sent Miss Berta Law to work with the youths.
Education is a key focus here at City Light Church. Scholarships and monthly allowances help students complete their education. The church actively engages with the community. They offer a children’s English program and a Sunday school. These programs are run with the help of dedicated interns.
But what does City Light Church actually do? They provide safe and furnished rooms for 50 youths. They offer a community English program. A scholarship program is also available that is renewed yearly. Food security is another priority. The church provides six months of renewable financial aid. This helps with emergency cases. It also provides electricity and gas for hostel residents to cook.
City Light Church extends its services to the wider community. It works with a mission school. This school uses a government-approved syllabus. Together they do community outreach. They help children from poor families. They host short-term volunteer teams. These teams undertake community projects. Of course church services for children and youths are held here.
