What if walls could talk? What stories would they whisper from City Life Church? Here at City Life Church, located right here in the bustling heart of New York City, the echoes of sermons and songs still linger. City Life Church has a captivating, albeit brief, history. The church’s first service took place on February 23rd, 1993. Just a few weeks later, on April 18th, 1993, hundreds of people formally joined City Life Church as founding members. The driving force behind City Life Church was Reverend Dr. R. Maurice Boyd. Born in Belfast, his journey led him from Ireland to Canada. Eventually, he arrived in New York City. He served as the Senior Minister of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. Reverend Boyd was a man of knowledge. He held degrees in theology, music, and philosophy. He was a prolific author and a captivating preacher. His sermons resonated in major churches and universities across Canada and the United States. City Life Church stood apart. It wasn’t affiliated with any specific denomination. It embraced a congregational structure, valuing inclusivity. The church held firm to the core tenets of Christian faith. When asked to describe City Life Church, Reverend Boyd often quoted scripture, letting the words speak for themselves. Sadly, City Life Church held its last public service on March 4th, 2007. While the church may no longer hold weekly services, its presence is still felt here. Its story, though short-lived, continues to inspire.
