Fancy a workout with an artistic twist? That is what the City Art Gym Sculpture offers. This isn’t your average gym. The City Art Gym Sculpture is a work of art you can actually use to exercise.
The City Art Gym Sculpture is located in Västra Hamnen in Malmö. It sits in a prime location between the sea and the Turning Torso. Inaugurated with speeches by Ola Melin and Catarina Rolfsdotter-Jansson, it marked a unique addition to the city.
Imagine training your whole body on three stylish stainless steel forms. Age and fitness level are not a barrier here. The City Art Gym Sculpture is designed for everyone. Catarina Rolfsdotter-Jansson created this innovative concept. She believed that exercise should be accessible to all. She noted that not everyone has the desire or means to go to a gym. Therefore, the gym should be where people move daily. You can do a full workout. Or you can just do a few exercises. The City Art Gym Sculpture makes it easy to get moving. You can use it in workout clothes. Or you can use it in your regular clothes while walking the dog. Even a quick evening stroll can become an exercise opportunity.
The City Art Gym Sculpture consists of three pieces. These are named “The Ball,” “The Bar,” and “The Bridge.” This trio can be placed in various settings. Parks, squares, schoolyards, and even company courtyards are ideal locations. Instructions for exercises are on stainless steel plates in the ground. These plates show stylized drawings.
The City Art Gym Sculpture is made of stainless steel. You can do many exercises beyond the seventeen shown. Only your imagination limits you. The ground around the City Art Gym can be grass, gravel, asphalt, or even paving stones. The architects in Malmö chose rubber asphalt for the first sculpture. They placed the instructions in a circle around the trio.
Now, the City Art Gym Sculpture is being marketed to city planners, architects, construction companies, and hotel chains. A portion of the profits goes to The Green Cross. This supports their work with international water issues.
Catarina Rolfsdotter-Jansson is also a writer and speaker. Her focus is on sustainable development. She has years of experience as a fitness and yoga instructor. The City Art Gym Sculpture combines her passions. It sits at the intersection of sustainable urban development and health. She developed her idea with her husband, Mats Jansson. They partnered with Lappset AB.
The City Art Gym Sculpture enhances any location. It also demonstrates concern for the health of the community. So next time you’re in Västra Hamnen, give it a try. Who knows? You might just find a new way to enjoy public art and fitness.
