Gazing up at the Don Rodolfo T. Lizares Sr. Building reveals more than just brick and mortar. This is the CIT-U Main Building. It is a landmark of Cebu Institute of Technology University. This building whispers tales of resilience innovation and a commitment to Cebu’s future.

The story of this building and CIT-U begins in 1946. The Philippines was rebuilding after World War II. Dr. Nicolas G. Escario Sr. envisioned a school focused on vital industries. He collaborated with engineers Fidel C. Dagani Amancio A. Alcordo and Jose A. Cavan. Together they laid the foundation for CIT.

Initially CIT operated from two pre-fabricated structures on F. Ramos Street. Don Simplicio A. Lizares Sr. became the first Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Escario became President and Don Rodolfo T. Lizares Sr. Vice President. They pooled their resources to establish the institution.

In 1965 a new site was acquired along N. Bacalso Avenue. A modern four-story building rose. In 1971 college graduating students occupied it first. Gradually other colleges moved from the C. Padilla Street campus. This new location became the heart of CIT. It housed administrative offices academic buildings and engineering labs. There were also sprawling grounds for parking athletics and drills.

The Don Rodolfo T. Lizares Sr. Building opened its doors in 1971. It marked a new chapter for CIT. In 2018 it was renamed to honor the school’s second president. It stands as a tribute to his leadership. Today it is home to several colleges. These include Management Business and Accountancy Arts Sciences and Education and Criminal Justice. The Senior High School Department is also located here.

The CIT-U Main Building is more than just classrooms and offices. It is a hub of activity. The Quadrangle in the building’s center hosts school events. Students gather here sharing ideas and creating memories.

The building connects to others within the campus. An elevated walkway on the third floor leads to the Dr. Nicolas G. Escario Sr. Building. This symbolizes the connection between science technology and other disciplines. The Main Building also links to the Don Simplicio A. Lizares Building. This connection spans the second third and fourth floors bridging the Junior High School with other departments.
