Circolo Svolta. A name that once echoed with the vibrant energy of music and community. Here at 118 Via Franchi Maggi in Rozzano, a suburb of Milan, stood more than just a building. It was a dream, a vision brought to life by a group of passionate individuals. They called themselves “Svolta,” meaning “turning point.” They wanted to offer their skills and experiences to the community, to create something that could improve everyone’s well-being. Circolo Svolta was born from this desire, a fusion of the Associazione Svolta and Associazione La Fabbrica. Their mission, as they described it, was a change of direction, a shift in perspective. They envisioned a city, a world, where everyone felt welcome and included, regardless of race, religion, gender, or physical ability. Circolo Svolta was meant to be a space where everyone could find their place. It was a place where differences were celebrated and everyone felt empowered to contribute. One of their most ambitious goals was to create the first fully accessible social club in Italy, a place where physical barriers were nonexistent. They chose the sloth as their logo, a creature often underestimated for its slow pace. The sloth, to them, symbolized hidden potential and resilience. They believed that even small steps, like those of a sloth, can lead to big change. Circolo Svolta hosted numerous metal concerts and events. Bands from all over came to play in this inclusive space. The energy was palpable, the music electrifying. But like many venues, Circolo Svolta faced its challenges. Sadly, on June 30, 2020, the club closed its doors at this location. Their farewell message was filled with gratitude for the musicians, the staff, and the community that made it all possible. They signed off with a simple but powerful message: “Buona musica a tutti!” Good music to all. The sentiment captured the essence of what Circolo Svolta stood for. Music, connection, and a belief in the power of community. Though the physical space may be gone, the spirit of Circolo Svolta continues to resonate in the memories of those who experienced its unique magic.
