Behold Cinema Aquatica a unique outdoor cinema experience. It wasn’t always here. This remarkable artwork wasn’t a permanent fixture. It was created for the International Garden Show in Hamburg in 2013. The theme was ‘In 80 Gardens Around the World’. The Cinema Aquatica garden was part of the ‘Water Worlds’ section.

Hunck+Lorenz landscape architects designed it. They collaborated with ceramist Carla Binter. Together they crafted a special open-air cinema. Imagine original wooden cinema seats. Visitors sat watching a ceramic screen. The screen depicted underwater scenes. Water flowed down the screen. Sunlight created mesmerizing effects.

The cost was 120000 Euros. The garden was 180 square meters. It was a temporary installation. The garden was only there for the 2013 International Garden Show. Sadly it wasn’t preserved. It was dismantled after the show’s end.

But the memory of Cinema Aquatica remains. The unique blend of art nature and cinema captivated visitors. It demonstrated the creative possibilities of temporary installations. The artwork highlighted Hamburg’s commitment to both art and environmental sustainability. Think of the flowing water reflecting sunlight. The ceramic screen displaying vibrant underwater scenes. It was a multisensory experience. A fleeting moment of beauty and wonder.

Now we stand where Cinema Aquatica once stood. We can only imagine the magical ambiance. We can appreciate the creativity that brought it to life. Even though it is gone Cinema Aquatica’s legacy lives on. It lives on in photographs and memories. It serves as a reminder of Hamburg’s vibrant artistic spirit and its willingness to embrace innovative ideas. This unique open-air cinema remains a testament to the power of temporary art. It left a lasting impression on the hearts of all who experienced it.
