Imagine, for a moment, stepping back in time to the Roman settlement of Cemenelum. This is Cimiez. It was once the capital of the Alpes-Maritimes province.

Today, Cimiez is a residential area in Nice. It is also a place rich in history and culture. Let’s explore some of the remarkable sights.

First, we have the Jardin du Monastère de Cimiez. This garden is the oldest in Nice. Franciscan monks originally used it as a vegetable garden and orchard. They grew vines, fruit trees and medicinal plants. Today, you’ll find citrus, orange, lemon and mandarin trees. Mediterranean species like olive and cypress trees dot the landscape. The garden still features its original layout. A central well and pergolas covered in climbing roses add to its charm.

The Regina Palace is another notable building in Cimiez. It was once a hotel built in 1896. Queen Victoria stayed here during her winter visits.
