Established in 1968 Churchill High School stands proudly. It’s one of Livonia’s main public high schools. This western Detroit suburb saw a population boom. That’s why Churchill was built. The school is named after Winston Churchill. It wasn’t immediately fully operational. The first graduating class wasn’t until 1971. Sophomores initially attended classes at nearby Franklin High School. Juniors and sophomores then moved to the new building in 1969. Churchill High School houses the MSC program. That’s Math Science and Computers. There’s also the Creative and Performing Arts program known as CAPA. The school boasts a rich athletic history. The Girls’ Cross-Country team finished second in the state in 2006. The Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team won the state championship in 2007. Notable alumni include actress Judy Greer. She was a CAPA member. Journalist Charlie LeDuff is another alumnus. He’s a Pulitzer Prize winner. Former WWE star Zach Gowen also attended Churchill. So did professional hockey players Ryan Kesler and Torey Krug. The Livonia Career Technical Center is just across the street. It offers hands-on learning opportunities.
