Is it just me, or does the air buzz with history here? Right before us stands the Church of the Good Shepherd, an elegant time capsule from 1893. This church has silently witnessed generations of life in Brookfield, from its humble beginnings as a farming community. The Church of the Good Shepherd, you see, wasn’t always here. Before its construction, Brookfield residents, mostly farmers and timber workers, faced quite a trek to attend church services. They belonged to the Indooroopilly Parish, and imagine traveling that distance in the late 1800s! The Reverend Arthur Richard Rivers, a practical man, saw the need for a local church and rallied the community. And so, the Church of the Good Shepherd was born, built for the grand sum of £220. Initially, to save on costs, the church interior was left unlined, showcasing the bare bones of its structure. It wasn’t until the 1950s that the interior got its cozy makeover. The next time you’re here, close your eyes for a moment and imagine the echo of hymns within those bare timber walls, the scent of freshly cut wood mingling with the hopes and dreams of early settlers. This isn’t just a building; it’s a testament to the enduring spirit of the Brookfield community.
