The Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian has stood sentinel for almost five centuries on Pravoberezhnaya Street in Moscow. The original structure was built of wood in 1462. It was then erected again in stone in 1564. It has seen emperors rise and fall, revolutions come and go, and generations of faithful come to pray. The church is dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian, two twin brothers who were healers in the 4th century. It is said that the brothers performed their miracles in the name of Christ and never asked for payment. Cosmas and Damian were both martyred for their faith, and their lives are now venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
