The Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian has stood sentinel for almost five centuries on Pravoberezhnaya Street in Moscow. The original structure was built of wood in 1462. It was then erected again in stone in 1564. It has seen emperors rise and fall, revolutions come and go, and generations of faithful come to pray. The church is dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian, two twin brothers who were healers in the 4th century. It is said that the brothers performed their miracles in the name of Christ and never asked for payment. Cosmas and Damian were both martyred for their faith, and their lives are now venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian in Kosmodemyanskoye is one of many churches in Moscow dedicated to the saints, but it is particularly beloved for its beautiful iconography and its serene atmosphere. For many years, the church was used for various non-religious purposes. In the 1960s, it was even used as an office building for the nearby factory. But on June 22, 1993, the church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. It was restored and reopened to worshipers on November 14, 1993. Today, the church is once again a place of prayer and hope for the people of Moscow. The bells of the church ring out across the city, reminding people of the enduring power of faith. The church has seen a lot of change over the years, but its purpose has never wavered. It is a beacon of hope and a reminder of the love of God.
