Church of New Hope and Faith

From a modest beginning on 3rd and Queen Streets, the Church of New Hope and Faith has blossomed into a cornerstone of faith and family. The Church of New Hope and Faith was founded in October 1926 by Reverend Dewitt Beauford. Imagine a young Rev. Beauford with his wife Lelia and their five children: Dora, Estelle, Evelyn, Ethel, and William. This church wasn’t just a building. It was a family legacy. William, just four years old at the church’s founding, would later take the reins, leaving his mark on the Church of New Hope and Faith’s story. The church moved a few times, finally settling at 12th and Bainbridge in 1936. This location, a former Baptist church, became the church’s anchor. It was chartered in Delaware in 1935 and then in Pennsylvania in 1957. William served in the Army and was ordained in 1958 after his mother’s passing. He embraced the community, serving on various boards and leading pastoral organizations. His motto, “each one, bring one,” resonated through the Church of New Hope and Faith. Rev. Beauford prepared the church for the future, working alongside the junior pastor, Rev. Dr. John Coger, for a year before retiring. Rev. Coger was installed in 1988. He carried the torch, leading the Church of New Hope and Faith into a new era while honoring its rich past. The echoes of “each one, bring one” still resonate within these walls. The legacy of the Beauford family continues to inspire the Church of New Hope and Faith.
