Nestled in the heart of Bangkok, the Church of Most Holy Redeemer stands as a testament to faith and resilience. The Church of Most Holy Redeemer isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant hub woven into the fabric of the community. The Church of Most Holy Redeemer was established in 1949 by the Redemptorists, a Catholic congregation dedicated to serving the poor and marginalized. The church itself was built in 1954. The architecture is a beautiful blend of traditional Thai styles. The Church of Most Holy Redeemer serves a diverse congregation. Both local Thais and international parishioners gather here. The church offers daily mass in both Thai and English, accompanied by the harmonious sounds of an electronic organ and the voices of the congregation. The Church of Most Holy Redeemer also has a significant history of social outreach. It played a key role in founding the Ruamrudee International School in 1957. This began as Holy Redeemer School. It catered to local children with a Thai curriculum. Today, Ruamrudee International School has moved to Minburi and boasts a student population of around 1,300, following an American curriculum and using English as the medium of instruction. Back on the church grounds, the original Holy Redeemer School still serves the local community. Beyond education, the Church of Most Holy Redeemer also runs a marriage preparation program. This is a central hub for Catholic couples in Bangkok preparing for their vows. The church’s Food Outreach Program provides vital support to over 400 asylum-seeking families each month, primarily from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Palestine, and Syria. The Church of Most Holy Redeemer demonstrates its commitment to community through various initiatives. It supports organizations like the Sarnelli House Thailand, an orphanage for abandoned children and those with HIV/AIDS. It also partners with the Human Development Foundation Mercy Centre, which offers a range of services to those in need within the Klong Toey slums. These services include shelter for street children, orphanages, a hospice, and a home for mothers and children with HIV/AIDS. The Church of Most Holy Redeemer also collaborates with the Father Ray Foundation. This organization cares for orphaned, abused, and disadvantaged children, as well as students with disabilities. Even more, the Church of Most Holy Redeemer hosts support groups. This includes Overeaters Anonymous, a resource for those struggling with overeating, especially expats in Bangkok. It also serves as a meeting place for Alcoholics Anonymous. The Church of Most Holy Redeemer is more than just a building. It’s a beacon of hope. It’s a symbol of community and a testament to the power of faith to bring people together.
