The golden tabernacle gleams. It traveled far from India a gift from a generous benefactor. This is the Church of Mary Coredemptrix. Its story begins in the year 2000. The Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate sought a place to build a church dedicated to Mary Mediatrix of All Graces. They found land in Barangay San Jose Talamban Cebu City. It modeled the church after the one in Naga City but larger. It needed to accommodate more people.

The cornerstone was laid on August 2 2006. Construction began twenty days later. Donations from Italy and the Philippines funded the project. Mrs Mercy Tuason a long-time supporter played a significant role. The friars sisters and community members collaborated extensively. Friar Michael Angelo Mary and Friar John Michael Mary designed the altar and statue of Jesus and Mary. The thick marble slab came from Romblon.
