“Faith, Hope, and Love” those three words resonate deeply here at the Church of Faith, Hope and Love. It is more than just a name. It is the foundation upon which this church was built.
Let me share the story of this church. I want to tell you how it came to be a beacon of faith in the community. The Church of Faith, Hope and Love’s story actually started in a rather humble setting. Picture a small garage in June 1994. It was here that a group of people came together with a shared vision. They wanted to create a place where faith in God was paramount.
Pastor David, the founder, chose the name carefully. He drew inspiration from the Bible. The words “Faith, Hope, and Love” appear together in three verses. Faith represents belief in God. Hope signifies belief in God’s ability to provide help and eternal life. Love embodies the relationship with God and fellow human beings.
Initially, the church was named Faith, Hope and Love Christian Fellowship. This was done to emphasize the community of believers. Later, they adopted the name Church of Faith, Hope and Love. This name reflects their growth and identity.
The church first met in Canajoharie on Church Street in October 1994. This small storefront became a hub of activity. Services took place. Bible studies and prayer meetings were held regularly. Guest ministries visited. Dinners and youth events fostered a strong community spirit.
In 1999, the church relocated to Erie Boulevard. The new space offered room for Sunday school classes. A library area was created. A kitchen was added and a pastor’s office. The large sanctuary became a place of worship for many. Its location across from the local high school helped them connect with many teenagers.
Disaster struck in 2006. A major flood damaged the building. After the cleanup, the building was remodeled into apartments. The Church of Faith, Hope and Love found a temporary home at the United Methodist Church on Main Street. They held services in the beautiful sanctuary in the afternoon. They also used some Sunday School rooms.
To save money and have an earlier service, they began meeting in a home in Palatine Bridge in 2012. They retained the option to host special events at the Methodist church.
In 2016, the church moved back to the basement of the Methodist Church. They upgraded their equipment. A TV and computer were used to display worship lyrics.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought new challenges in May 2020. Restrictions forced them to worship at home. Then, in December 2020, they found a new space at Upstate Chapel on 63 Cliff Street. Services were held at 5 pm on Sundays. This arrangement allowed them to share the building with another congregation. It also offered a convenient time for people who worked or rested on Sunday mornings. The building is handicap accessible.
The Church of Faith, Hope and Love embodies its vision. It is “a place of hope where people are filled with faith in God and touched by the love of the Lord.” This church wants to spread the gospel beyond its walls. The church wants its actions to identify its members as followers of Jesus Christ. They want to reveal His love so others will have the desire to follow Christ.
