Engraved in weathered stone, a history whispers. That history is the story of Chùa Trung Kính Thượng. This temple stands in the heart of Hanoi as a testament to time.

Chùa Trung Kính Thượng is also known as Diên Phúc tự. It resides in Trung Hoà ward Cầu Giấy district. This temple’s story stretches back centuries.

Let’s step back to the 17th century. Stone inscriptions reveal the temple’s early existence. The oldest inscription dates back to 1679. It is from the reign of Vĩnh Trị. These stones record donations. They also show the community’s deep connection to the temple. One inscription states that the village has Diên Phúc temple as a place of scenic beauty. It is a famous place where everyone should trust each other.

Time has changed the temple. Chùa Trung Kính Thượng has undergone several renovations. Records show restoration efforts in 1889. A bell was cast during the Thành Thái era. Bùi Cáp a local official initiated the repairs. He also decorated the Buddha statues. The community supported his efforts. Further renovations occurred in 2002 2004 and 2006. Each restoration is documented on stone bia. These stones immortalize the contributions of donors. They also celebrate those who helped preserve Chùa Trung Kính Thượng.

Imagine the temple grounds. Chùa Trung Kính Thượng sits on high ground. It is near the Tô Lịch River. The complex includes a Tam quan or triple gate. There is a main temple Nhà Tổ which is the Ancestral hall. Also there is Nhà Mẫu or the Mother Goddess hall.

Consider the statues within Chùa Trung Kính Thượng. The temple houses 58 statues. These include Buddhas and Mother Goddesses. Each statue shows detailed artistry. Highlights include the Tam thế Phật or the Three Worlds Buddhas. Also noteworthy are the A Di Đà Tam tôn and Di Lặc statues.

The temple proudly displays its history. Eight stone steles are preserved. Three bronze bells resonate with age. One bell the Diên Phúc tự chung dates back to the late 17th century. A bronze khánh chimes from 1889. Fourteen calligraphic panels adorn the temple. They declare Diên Phúc tự Tổ ấn trùng quang and Mẫu nghi thiên hạ.

In 2009 the city recognized its cultural value. UBND Thành phố Hà Nội classified Chùa Trung Kính Thượng. It became an architectural and artistic landmark.

Now as you stand before Chùa Trung Kính Thượng consider its enduring legacy. This temple is not just a place of worship. It is a living record. It reflects the faith art and community of Hanoi. The story of Chùa Trung Kính Thượng continues to unfold with each passing day.
