Have you ever wondered about a temple that combines spiritual solace with architectural grandeur? That’s Chùa Quang Minh in Da Nang. This temple is more than just a place of worship. It is a sanctuary of peace and a testament to Vietnamese Buddhist culture.

Chùa Quang Minh stands on a spacious hectare of land. It faces west embracing visitors with its serene atmosphere. Before 1957 this site was just a simple Buddhist hall. But it has grown into the magnificent temple we see today.

Sư bà Thích Nữ Diệu Lý spearheaded the transformation. She organized the reconstruction making Chùa Quang Minh larger and more solemn. The grand inauguration of the main hall ancestral hall and Quan Âm pavilion happened in March 1994.

A highlight of Chùa Quang Minh is the statue of Đức Phật Thích Ca. This open-air statue faces the national highway. It is an unmissable landmark. The statue is 20 meters tall showing Buddha in meditation. He sits on a hexagonal lotus platform. The base is a 10-meter-high cement structure. Built between 1964 and 1969 it was once the largest open-air Buddha statue in Vietnam.

Sculptor Trần Ngọc Quế gave the statue Vietnamese features. He modeled it after five Hòa thượng. These were Thích Tịnh Khiết Giác Nhiên Đôn Hậu Thiên Hoa and Thiện Hòa. Inside the Phật Đài each of the five levels is tiled. The ground floor has a diameter of 9.6 meters. The fourth floor houses a statue of Đức Phật Thích Ca. From the fifth floor at the statue’s neck one can view all of Da Nang.

Chùa Quang Minh is located at 412 Tôn Đức Thắng street Hòa Minh ward Liên Chiểu district. It sits next to National Route 1A near the Huế T-junction. The phone number is 0511.842862. This temple follows the Bắc tông sect.

Each year thousands of visitors and Buddhists visit the Thích Ca Phật Đài at Chùa Quang Minh. They come to worship and find peace. When you visit Da Nang take a moment to experience the beauty and tranquility of Chùa Quang Minh. Let the serene environment and cultural richness leave a lasting impression on you.
