Didn’t \u00d4ng B\u00f9i V\u0103n Minh realize he was laying the foundation for a cultural landmark? Welcome to Ch\u00f9a Ph\u01b0\u1edbc L\u00e2m C\u1ed5 T\u1ef1 also known as Ch\u00f9a \u00d4ng Mi\u00eang. This ancient temple stands in \u1ea5p X\u00f3m Ch\u00f9a. It sits in X\u00e3 T\u00e2n L\u00e2n. It is in huy\u1ec7n C\u1ea7n \u0110\u01b0\u1edbc t\u1ec9nh Long An.
In 1880 \u00d4ng B\u00f9i V\u0103n Minh a generous soul from T\u00e2n L\u00e2n gifted his home. He turned it into a temple. This act of devotion created Ph\u01b0\u1edbc L\u00e2m T\u1ef1. It served as both a place of worship and a communal space. It was for the B\u00f9i lineage.
Locals affectionately call it Ch\u00f9a \u00d4ng Mi\u00eang honoring \u00f4ng Minh’s legacy. He had great merit. After passing he was revered. He became a guardian spirit. His image was enshrined in the T\u00e2n L\u00e2n communal house.
Ch\u00f9a Ph\u01b0\u1edbc L\u00e2m earned national recognition in 2002. The Ministry of Culture and Information now the Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism designated it a National Architectural Art Relic.
The temple complex comprises three main sections. The main hall links to the ancestral hall. There is a tomb area with stupas. And there is a common house. The main hall is built in the style of a “banh it” cake. It features a green stone foundation. Brick walls rise to meet a roof tiled with fish scale tiles.
Inside cylindrical wooden columns support the structure. These columns rest on green stone pedestals. A network of connecting beams reinforces the spacious interior. Despite renovations Ph\u01b0\u1edbc L\u00e2m C\u1ed5 T\u1ef1 retains its ancient charm. Over forty statues of Buddhas Bodhisattvas and deities adorn the space. Gilded panels add to the temple’s splendor. Most statues are crafted from wood or bronze. They showcase 19th-century Buddhist art from southern Vietnam. A unique Bodhisattva statue depicts a figure in robes. This figure holds a duster. It sits upon a wooden dragon horse.
Behind the main hall the ancestral hall honors past abbots. It also honors B\u00f9i C\u00f4ng and the B\u00f9i family. Four ancient stupas stand to the side. Among them is the bảo \u0111\u1ed3ng tower. It commemorates the founding monk H\u1ed3ng Hi\u1ebfu. The tomb of \u00f4ng B\u00f9i V\u0103n Minh is also here.
Beyond the temple a lotus pond blooms. The fragrant air is carried by gentle breezes. This makes Ph\u01b0\u1edbc L\u00e2m a serene sanctuary. More than just a religious site Ch\u00f9a Ph\u01b0\u1edbc L\u00e2m holds historical significance. It sheltered revolutionary soldiers during the French and American wars. The temple served as a local revolutionary base. It was a target for enemy attacks. Bullet marks still mar the wooden columns of the main hall.
Ph\u01b0\u1edbc L\u00e2m C\u1ed5 T\u1ef1 stands as a testament to faith resilience and artistic heritage. It embodies the spirit of southern Vietnamese temples. Today Ph\u01b0\u1edbc L\u00e2m welcomes visitors. They come to worship seek solace and appreciate its timeless beauty. It remains a source of pride for the local community.
