Christ The King Church began its life in 1893 in Toowong. Back then, it was known as the Church of St. Michael and the Holy Souls. Designed by the prominent architectural firm Hunter and Son, the timber Carpenter Gothic church served the Toowong community for nearly 40 years. As Toowong grew, a larger church, St. Ignatius Loyola, was built. The charming timber church found a new home in Graceville thanks to the efforts of Archbishop Duhig and dedicated parishioners. In 1930, the church was meticulously dismantled, transported across the Brisbane River, and reassembled on this very site. Repainted, refurnished, and christened Christ The King Church, it marked a new chapter in its life. The church has seen numerous additions and renovations over the years, reflecting the growth of the Graceville community. Yet, it retains its historical charm. The church stands as a testament to community spirit and the enduring power of faith.
