“Looking for a place of worship? Step right up. The Christ Redeemer Church International awaits. It is a beacon of faith right here in Accra.
Christ Redeemer Church International stands as a testament to faith. It also embodies the vibrant Christian community in Ghana. But its story is deeply intertwined with a larger movement. This movement shaped Pentecostalism in the country.
The story begins with Apostle Peter Anim. He is the originator of Ghanaian Pentecostalism. Anim started a prayer group in 1917 at Asamankese. This humble beginning would later connect with the Apostolic Church Bradford.
Anim’s journey started with a healing ministry. He called it Faith Tabernacle. This was after his recovery from stomach issues. He also recovered from guinea worm infections. Anim had read a magazine called Sword of Spirit. It was published by Faith Tabernacle USA.
In 1931, Anim reached out to the Apostolic Church of Bradford. He did this through David O. Odubanjo, a fellow minister in Nigeria. Rev George Perfect visited Anim’s church. Perfect was a missionary from Bradford. Anim and his members embraced the doctrines of the Apostolic Church Bradford. Anim’s church became The Apostolic Church Gold Coast. A major “Holy Ghost Outpouring” happened a year later. Healings, miracles, and salvation occurred. This greatly boosted the ministry’s growth.
James McKeown arrived in 1937. He was the first Pentecostal missionary from the UK. He came to Asamankese.
The church initially practiced divine healing strictly. McKeown fell ill with malaria. He was hospitalized. Some in the church felt betrayed. They opposed medical treatment. This disagreement caused a split. McKeown’s followers remained Apostolic Church Bradford. Anim’s followers formed Christ Apostolic Church.
Today, Christ Redeemer Church International continues this legacy. It stands as a place where faith is nurtured. People connect with a global movement. It offers a sense of belonging. It is rooted in the history of Ghanaian Pentecostalism.
Christ Redeemer Church International is more than just a building. It is a living story of faith, healing, and community. It welcomes all. Come and experience the warmth of its congregation. Feel the power of its spiritual heritage. The Christ Redeemer Church International is a cornerstone of faith in Accra.”
