Can you hear the echoes of faith? They resonate from Christ Memorial Baptist Church, right here on Dutchtown Road. Christ Memorial Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to the power of faith and perseverance. The story begins on Drayton Street in 1976. A small group, led by Pastor Samuel Williams, organized Christ Memorial Baptist Church at the Masons and Eastern Star building. Seven deacons and four deaconesses formed the foundation of this new congregation. They adopted a simple motto, one that would guide them through the years. Then, a fortunate discovery. The Church of the Nazarene on Harmon Street became available. In 1977, the congregation purchased the building. That December, the first service filled the space with joyous worship. This was their new church home. Pastor Williams led the church for eleven years before resigning in 1988. Rev. Michael Evans then stepped in, guiding the church and welcoming new members. However, his time at Christ Memorial was shorter than his predecessor’s. He left for South Carolina in 1990. For nine months, the church was without a pastor. But in 1991, Minister Larry L. Broxton became the third pastor of Christ Memorial. A new chapter began. Years later, in 2012, Christ Memorial Baptist Church moved to its current location on Dutchtown Road. The move symbolized more than just a change of address. It represented growth, both numerically and spiritually. The echoes of faith continue to resonate here at Christ Memorial Baptist Church. From Drayton Street to Dutchtown Road, the journey of this church is a story of faith, perseverance, and growth.
