On a cold December day in 2017, a seed of faith was planted. The people of Peace Lutheran Church in North Charleston made a bold decision. They chose to end their ministry to give birth to something new: Christ Community Lutheran Church. Right here, at 8315 Dorchester Road, Christ Community Lutheran Church began its journey. Under Pastor Sherry Teves and later Pastor Wayne Young, the church sought ways to connect with North Charleston. They found a powerful way to do this by supporting homeless veterans in the nearby area. Providing supplies to those living in tent cities became a cornerstone of their mission. This act of compassion resonated deeply with the people of Christ Community Lutheran Church. It shaped their identity and their commitment to serving others. In early 2020, Christ Community Lutheran Church embarked on another venture. They partnered with St. Michael Lutheran Church in Moncks Corner. This collaboration, known as Two Rivers Parish, brought Pastor Joshua Knutson to lead both congregations. The partnership infused new energy and excitement, a clear sign of God’s plan for these two churches. Christ Community Lutheran Church’s core value is radical hospitality. They are a Synodically Authorized Worshipping Community of the ELCA and the SC Synod. They emphasize acceptance and welcome for all. They strive to create a space where everyone feels loved and valued, just as God intended.
