Christ Church School isn’t just a school. It’s a living testament to Mumbai’s rich past. Its story begins in 1718. Reverend Richard Cobbe a chaplain for the British East India Company started a tiny school. Twelve poor boys received free housing food clothing and education. This humble beginning was the seed that grew into the mighty tree of Christ Church School.

Nearly a century later Archdeacon George Barnes saw the need for a bigger school. He established the Bombay Education Society in 1815. The original school was absorbed. The school grew rapidly. New grounds and buildings became essential. The government generously provided land in Byculla. New school buildings opened in 1825. A copper plate commemorating the opening remains at Christ Church School today a silent witness to its enduring legacy.

Christ Church School wasn’t always a day school. Initially it was a boarding school for Anglo-Indian children. Later it welcomed day scholars of all castes and creeds. In 1925 Christ Church School became a day school only. Barnes School in Deolali Nashik became the boarding school. The two schools are still twinned sharing a common history.

The head boy head girl and house captains lead these activities.
