Did Apostle Peter Newman Anim ever imagine his humble prayer group would blossom into the Christ Apostolic Church International we stand before today? In 1917, in Asamankese, a small town nestled in Ghana’s Eastern Region, Anim’s journey began. He sought solace and healing, finding it in the pages of “The Sword of the Spirit,” a religious periodical. Its emphasis on faith healing and holiness resonated deeply, leading him to establish the Faith Tabernacle, the precursor to the Christ Apostolic Church International. The initial congregation thrived on the power of prayer and healing. News of miraculous recoveries spread like wildfire, drawing people from all corners of the region to witness and experience the divine intervention. The chief of Asamankese, impressed by Anim’s work, gifted the church land for its first building. It was upon this very building that a “Pillar of Fire,” a manifestation of God’s glory, was reportedly seen during a revival meeting. This miraculous event solidified the faith of the believers and attracted even more followers. In 1931, a connection was forged with missionaries from the Apostolic Church of Bradford in the UK. This partnership brought a new wave of spiritual fervor. The subsequent “Holy Ghost Outpouring” marked a significant turning point, bringing an influx of new members. Healings, miracles, and conversions became commonplace, propelling the growth of the church. The arrival of James McKeown, the first Pentecostal missionary from the UK, in 1937 introduced a period of both growth and conflict. A disagreement arose over McKeown’s decision to seek medical treatment for malaria, a practice contrary to the church’s strict adherence to divine healing. This eventually led to a split, with Anim’s followers formally establishing the Christ Apostolic Church in 1939. From these humble beginnings, the Christ Apostolic Church International has grown into a vast network of over 3,000 assemblies across Ghana and beyond, impacting hundreds of thousands of lives with its message of faith, healing, and holiness.
