Let’s step back in time to before this modern motel graced the foot of Mount Bukhansan. This very spot, now occupied by Chowon Mountain Villa, was once envisioned as a family’s dream home. A family of four yearned for a tranquil escape from bustling Seoul, a place where their children could embrace nature. The original house, designed by BCHO Architects, was ingeniously crafted to maximize natural light and ventilation. Imagine walls of glass replacing the original stone, opening up to breathtaking views of the mountain and city. The roof, constructed with clear PVC panels, brought the sky closer. That coveted rooftop space we admire today? It began as a family’s private sanctuary, featuring raised platforms with day beds and surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass. The house’s design, a blend of concrete, wood, and perforated white metal, aimed to harmonize with the surrounding environment. The first floor housed the garage and entrance, leading to the second floor’s expansive living area. The open-plan design seamlessly connected the living room, dining space, and kitchen, all bathed in natural light. Three south-facing bedrooms on the second floor offered serene mountain vistas.
