Consider this: What if a district could whisper tales of royal heritage and sweet tangerines? That district is Chom Thong in Bangkok. It is one of Bangkok’s 50 districts. Let’s explore Chom Thong together.

Chom Thong was once part of Bang Khun Thien District. It became its own district in November 1989. Later, in 1997, parts of Rat Burana and Thon Buri were added to Chom Thong. This administrative change shaped the Chom Thong we see today.

Historically, Chom Thong has royal connections. It was the original home of King Nangklao’s relatives. Imagine the stories these families could tell.

Chom Thong and Thung Khru are known for Bang Mot tangerines. These tangerines are deliciously sweet. You will see a giant tangerine sculpture where Rama II Road begins. Also, Poomjai Garden is here. It is Bangkok’s last lychee plantation.

Let’s discover Chom Thong’s spiritual side. Wat Rajorasaram dates back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It was originally called Wat Chom Thong. King Nangklao made it his royal temple. Notice how Chinese style blends with Thai Buddhist design. Wat Sai is another temple from the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It was once near a lively floating market. Farmers sold goods from their boats there. The market disappeared around 1977. Wat Nangnong Worawihan was renovated by King Nangklao. See the mother-of-pearl panels and the mixed Thai, Chinese and European styles.

Chom Thong is divided into four sub-districts. These are Bang Khun Thian, Bang Kho, Bang Mot, and Chom Thong. The district’s motto highlights its key features. It mentions the sacred monk of Wat Nang, the floating market at Wat Sai, the Bang Mot tangerine, and Wat Rajorasaram.

Getting around Chom Thong is easy. The Bangkok Skytrain has a station at the Chom Thong and Thon Buri boundary named Wutthakat Station. So, come explore Chom Thong. Discover its history, temples, and sweet tangerines. You will find a unique part of Bangkok here.
