Our journey begins at the heart of Cho Gao. This district wasn’t always known as Cho Gao. It started as a small market in Binh Phan Village. This was during the Canh Hung period. It was founded by Mr Tran Van Nguyet. A Chinese family built the first rice factory here. This factory was beside the river near what is now the Old Binh Phan Bridge. This attracted traders and farmers. Soon the area became a bustling hub for rice trade. The name Cho Gao Rice Market emerged naturally.
The Cho Gao River is a vital waterway. It links Ho Chi Minh City to other Mekong Delta provinces. Goods flowed along its currents. The river shaped Cho Gao’s economy and community. It was a lifeline for centuries.
