China Foreign Affairs University

Established in 1955, China Foreign Affairs University, often called CFAU, stands as a testament to China’s engagement with the world. This university isn’t just any educational institution. It’s the premier training ground for China’s diplomats, a place where the future of international relations is shaped. China Foreign Affairs University was the brainchild of Premier Zhou Enlai. He envisioned a dedicated institution to cultivate diplomats equipped to navigate the complexities of global affairs. Originally, CFAU was the Department of Diplomacy at Renmin University of China. It later evolved into its own entity, directly affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and co-built by the Ministry of Education. China Foreign Affairs University has two main campuses. The Zhanlanguan Rd Campus, a newer addition, and the original Shahe Campus. Imagine walking these halls alongside future ambassadors. Over 20,000 students have graduated from CFAU. Among them, more than 30 have held ministerial positions, around 500 have served as ambassadors, and over 1,000 have worked as counselors in embassies abroad. Wherever China’s flag flies, you’ll find CFAU alumni, solidifying its reputation as “The Cradle of Chinese Diplomats.” China Foreign Affairs University’s influence extends beyond China’s borders. The university has trained diplomats from over 150 countries through specialized programs. It’s a hub for international exchange, fostering collaboration and understanding between nations. CFAU also plays a crucial role as a foreign policy think tank. It serves as China’s focal point for networks like NEAT, NACT, and NTCT. These networks connect think tanks across East Asia and ASEAN, facilitating dialogue and research on critical global issues. China Foreign Affairs University is more than a university.
