Was it fate or divine intervention that led to the construction of Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Alessandro in Capriate? Its story is etched in faith and community. I am excited to share it with you.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Alessandro stands as a testament to Capriate’s enduring faith. It is more than just a building. It is a symbol of the town’s spiritual heart. The church’s story stretches back centuries. The first mention of a church in Capriate dates to 948.

Originally, this sacred space was part of the Archdiocese of Milan. But in 1786, a significant shift occurred. It transitioned to the Diocese of Bergamo. This change marked a new chapter for the church and its community.

By 1864, the church was bursting at the seams. The growing congregation needed more space. Angelo Cotto designed an expansion to accommodate the faithful. However, this expansion proved insufficient with the industrial growth.

In 1910, Bishop Giacomo Maria Radini-Tedeschi laid the first stone for a new church. Luigi Angelini designed it. The Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Alessandro opened its doors in 1913. Yet, the building was not quite complete. The facade was finished in 1932.

Later, between 1952 and 1955, the side chapels received beautiful frescoes. These artworks adorned the chapels of the Sacred Heart and the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1963, Bishop Giuseppe Piazzi officially consecrated the Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Alessandro. This event marked the culmination of years of dedication and hard work.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Alessandro’s bell tower also has its own story. It dates back to the 18th century. In 1966, it underwent restoration work. This ensured its survival for future generations. Further repairs were made in 1991.

Inside the Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Alessandro, the walls whisper stories. They speak of faith and artistry. Sunlight streams through the windows illuminating the sacred space. The scent of incense lingers in the air.

Imagine the countless prayers offered within these walls. Think of the baptisms, weddings and celebrations of life. Each event contributes to the rich tapestry of the Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Alessandro. It solidifies its place in the hearts of the people of Capriate.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Alessandro continues to be a beacon of faith. It is a gathering place and a historical landmark. It is a testament to Capriate’s vibrant community. As you leave, remember the stories etched in its stones. Remember the enduring spirit of its people.
