In 1620, a sacred image near the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Clemenza e San Bernardo became known for miracles. Pilgrims flocked to the site. Their offerings inspired Bishop Seghizzi to commission a grander church. The Chiesa di Santa Maria della Clemenza e San Bernardo replaced a smaller, older church dedicated to Saint Bernard. Construction began in 1623, led by architect Giovanni Battista Spezia and engineer Francesco Salomone. The project paused after Bishop Seghizzi’s death. Work resumed in 1640 under Bishop Gera. The miraculous image was moved into the new Chiesa di Santa Maria della Clemenza e San Bernardo in 1641. In 1648, the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Clemenza e San Bernardo became a parish church. It replaced the church of San Biagio, which was demolished to make way for new fortifications. Olivetan monks from Villanova administered the parish until the late 18th century. The Chiesa di Santa Maria della Clemenza e San Bernardo showcases a Baroque style. A side chapel honors Saint Bernard, remembering the original church. Another chapel, now gone, was dedicated to San Biagio. The church once housed intricately carved choir stalls by Fra Giovanni da Verona, originally from the church of San Cristoforo. These were later moved to Lodi Cathedral in 1963.
