Did you ever hear of a church built in just one year? Right here before us stands the Chiesa di San Zenone Vescovo in Milan. It is sometimes confused with other similarly named churches, like those in Cambiago or Treviolo, but we are focused on this specific San Zenone. While its early history is shrouded in time, we know that by 1690 the existing church was deemed insufficient. The parish priest, Don Mareschi, formally requested a new building. Amazingly, the new Chiesa di San Zenone Vescovo was begun on May 14, 1704, and completed in 1705 under Don Carlo Quinteri, an incredibly fast construction period. Bishop Ortensio Visconti consecrated the Chiesa di San Zenone Vescovo on October 23, 1711. The story doesn’t end there. Between 1775 and 1777, artists decorated the side chapels. On May 4, 1793, the main altar received its own consecration. Over the following centuries, the Chiesa di San Zenone Vescovo continued to evolve. Frescoes graced the presbytery in 1950. The roof and façade underwent restoration in 1988, followed by the nave’s frescoes in 1991. More recently, between 2010 and 2012, both the church and its bell tower were strengthened. Standing here, we can sense the layers of time and devotion embedded within the Chiesa di San Zenone Vescovo.
