Before us stands the Chiesa di San Remigio a testament to time and faith. Its origins are shrouded in the mists of the High Middle Ages. A small chapel dedicated to Saint Remigius likely existed then. A papal bull from 1169 however offers the first concrete proof of its presence. This document shows it was a subsidiary of the San Giuliano church. That church in turn was under the authority of the Monza parish.

The Chiesa di San Remigio’s story is one of evolution. In the late Middle Ages it was under the Gorgonzola parish. It finally gained parish status in 1578. Imagine the community’s joy at this elevation. By 1753 Archbishop Giuseppe Pozzobonelli noted its poor condition. He wisely suggested reconstruction.

This reconstruction began around 1760. The new Chiesa di San Remigio was completed in 1779. The bell tower was raised in 1847. In the 1930s the church underwent further expansion. Archbishop Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster consecrated the enlarged church on April 28 1941. This event marked a significant milestone in its history.

The Chiesa di San Remigio’s architectural style is striking. Its gable facade faces west. A cornice divides it into two sections each with three parts. Below is the arched entrance. Above sits a window topped by a semicircular tympanum. Attached is a square bell tower. This tower is divided into several levels. Its top features a small cupola resting on a semicircular drum.

The interior is impressive. A single nave intersects the transept. The sanctuary extends from the nave’s end. It is enclosed by a semicircular apse. Step inside and feel the echoes of centuries. Visualize the countless prayers offered within its walls. The Chiesa di San Remigio is more than just a building. It’s a living history a testament to enduring faith. A place where generations have sought solace and spiritual renewal.
