The Chiesa dell’Annunciazione della Beata Vergine e San Luigi Gonzaga began with a vision. The Diocese wanted to honor Archbishop Luigi Nazari di Calabiana. It was for his twenty-fifth anniversary as archbishop in 1892. They gifted land for a church. The location was in an area of Milan experiencing rapid growth.
The dream was to create a place of worship dedicated to San Luigi Gonzaga. It would serve the growing community. This area was beyond Porta Romana. It saw an influx of workers from southern Lombardy.
Don Enrico Locatelli designed the Chiesa dell’Annunciazione della Beata Vergine e San Luigi Gonzaga. He was the parish priest and architect of Vergiate. Antonio Casati helped him. The first stone was laid on November 20 1892. Sadly Archbishop Nazari di Calabiana died in 1893. He never saw the completion of his dream.
Cardinal Andrea Carlo Ferrari consecrated the church. The ceremony took place on July 3 1897. The Chiesa dell’Annunciazione della Beata Vergine e San Luigi Gonzaga officially opened.

Marble columns line the central nave under a barrel vault. The facade has a protruding central section. Four columns support it. A 50-meter-tall bell tower stands beside the church. The years following consecration were busy. The community worked to furnish the Chiesa dell’Annunciazione della Beata Vergine e San Luigi Gonzaga. They added an oratory and a parish house. A facade and bell tower were constructed. Bells, a clock and an organ were installed. A statue of Maria Bambina was added. Donations came from the Diocese and benefactors. The local community also contributed.
Don Adolfo Pagani meticulously recorded these contributions. He was the first parish priest. The Canossian Daughters of Charity also played a vital role. They opened a school for children in 1897.
Don Giuseppe Bignami founded a volunteer first aid service in 1902. It later became the Croce Bianca in 1907. The Societ Sportiva Fortes in Fide began in 1922. It continues its activities today.
