Its location is significant. The Corneana and Corneanello farmhouses surround it. These names come from ‘Curtinianum’. This name was documented as far back as 745. Close by, since at least 1140, stood a fortification. Today, only a wall north of the Chiesa del Corneanello remains. Imagine knights and villagers seeking shelter here centuries ago.
Records show a church dedicated to Santa Maria existed here in 1144. Back then, it belonged to the Saints Maria and Sigismondo of Rivolta d’Adda. This suggests a long history of religious importance in the area.
The building we see now likely dates to the early 1600s. However, older walls remain. Frescoes from the 1400s and 1500s are visible on the north side.
