“Can you imagine a church so grand, yet with a humble beginning?” our guide asked, gesturing towards the Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo apostoli. “This church, dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul, wasn’t always the impressive structure you see before you. It began as a much smaller church, dedicated solely to Saint Peter.” The guide continued, “The old church, the first in Arese, couldn’t contain the growing community. In 1880, a new era dawned with the laying of the first stone for the Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo apostoli. This grand project, spearheaded by Don Enrico Mora, aimed to accommodate the burgeoning populace.” With a twinkle in his eye, he added, “The construction was no small feat though! The final cost of this architectural marvel was a whopping 60,000 liras, a significant sum for its time.”
