A small, unassuming church amidst the bustling city, standing tall on a quiet side street. This is the Chiesa dei Santi Magi, a place with an intriguing history. It was originally dedicated to Saint Mary in the 14th century. A few centuries later it was rededicated to the Nativity of Mary and finally to the Three Wise Men, with the first documentation of this dedication in 1704. The church has borne witness to a great many changes, reflecting the turbulent history of this neighborhood. The building’s original purpose was lost in the 18th century and the church was converted into a residence for farmers. In the 20th century its bell tower was destroyed in a bombing during World War II. The church fell into disrepair, until after the war when a dedicated priest restored it as a place of worship. Today, the Chiesa dei Santi Magi is a small, yet significant church, standing as a testament to the resilience of faith and the evolution of this neighborhood. It is a reminder of the past, yet a welcoming space for the community to gather in the present.
