The Chennai Railway Museum houses scale models, offering a glimpse into the intricate details of trains from different eras. A coach that once carried Mahatma Gandhi stands as a testament to history. Outside, the Chennai Railway Museum expands into a sprawling display of 41 train models. A Fowler steam ploughing engine from 1895 and double-deck coaches from the 1860s evoke a bygone era. You can explore a Nilgiri Mountain Railway coach, a GM inspection car, and various engines. Posters showcase high-speed trains, railway history, and coaches made for Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Zambia. The Chennai Railway Museum also displays old railway maps, century-old clocks, and a diesel-locomotive engine block. In the ICF Diamond Jubilee Gallery, digitally restored photographs by Ian Manning, including one of a steam-engine turntable, capture the essence of railway operations. A first-class compartment seat and a scale model of third-class MG coaches designed for Uganda showcase the ICF’s contributions. An art gallery at the Chennai Railway Museum features paintings depicting scenes from railway stations and related establishments. M. S. Murthy’s “Gandhi” pays tribute to the leader’s philosophy. Shahid Pasha’s “Kanhaiya’s Journey” portrays a young Krishna guiding his mother Yashoda as she navigates a railway station.
