Here stands the Chengdu Magic Cube Performing Arts Center a testament to Chengdu’s dedication to culture and arts. This isn’t just another building. It is a landmark designed to inject new life into the city.
Imagine for a moment, the city’s largest metropolis in southwest China comes alive with music. That’s because the Chengdu government has been striving to establish the city as a music capital in recent years. The Chengdu Magic Cube is located in the heart of Chengdu.
Completed in mid-2021, the Chengdu Magic Cube is a mixed-use development. It covers over one million square meters. It combines cultural amenities with offices, hotels, and residential facilities.
Notice the landscape design. It draws inspiration from the building’s own spiral and circular patterns. The lines extend outward into the surrounding space. A “galaxy” of circles shapes gathering spots, sunken gardens, plazas, and play areas. Five main plaza and garden zones act as the project’s cores. They help create an energetic dynamic for the city.
Look up at the office towers. KONE, a global leader in elevators and escalators, equipped the Chengdu Magic Cube. There are 60 elevators and escalators to ensure smooth people flow. Forty of the elevators use the KONE Destination Control System. This reduces waiting and travel times. The KONE E-link equipment monitors the whole system.
The Chengdu Magic Cube Performance Center is the focal point of this complex. The venue covers about 99,000 square meters with five stories above ground and two beneath.
The Chengdu Boyang Damofang Performing Company manages the venue. They have vast experience staging large-scale events. They chose to install an L-Acoustics K1 system. This was the first indoor venue in northwestern China to do so.
Consider this: Usually only theatres with fewer than 3,000 seats have professional stage equipment. Larger venues often lack complete lighting and sound. The Chengdu Magic Cube’s acoustics were designed to strict theatre standards.
David Wang, the director of stage art, was one of the first K1 users in Asia. He chose K1 for the arts center because of its power and long throw capabilities. The venue has 12,000 fixed seats distributed across five levels.
Observe the sound system. It’s a semi-fixed installation that can be reconfigured for different performances. A large mobile L-Acoustics system can also be deployed as needed.
The venue also has two DiGiCo SD5 consoles for mixing. This open design helps engineers quickly integrate their equipment.
During construction, the technical team concealed large cable runs. Rightway provided technical support, system design, and training.
Now, the Chengdu Magic Cube stands as a youthful, energetic landmark. It blends indoors and outdoors. It creates a journey of discovery for families, office workers, and shoppers. The Chengdu Magic Cube is not just a building. It is an experience.
